The SYDNEY GYPSY & BALKAN BASH
SATURDAY 19th of April  at the Abercrombie Hotel.

Another month comes along and that means another Uber Lingua party at the Abercrombie... March's Uber System Charged! party was the biggest yet with more punters seemingly discovering the musically freeform ways of the Uber crew... For changes sake, the Sydney UL mob felt the need to do a themed party... Hence the GYPSY & BALKAN BASH idea was born and invitations were sent out to all known Eastern Euro & Gypsy DJs and musicians...

Featuring DJs VIT (Czech Republic), DJ Sveta (Russia), FSB (Bulgaria), Aindrias de Staic (Galway, Ireland), bP (UL Melb),
Mashy P, Ollo DJs & DubChaman & LIVE ACTS Gypsy Dub Sound System & The Gyp-Rocks

SATURDAY 19th APRIL 8pm till late
Abercrombie Hotel : 100 Broadway, Ultimo
$10 entry : tickets on the door

Catch a preview DJ set from FSB from Bulgaria on 2SER on Saturday between 4-6pm 'Departure Lounge'

DJ Sveta is known for her work with Star Fuckers and the Gay party scene, yet her Russian genetic heritage calls from time to time and she'll be dropping a set of all Ruski dancefloor tracks... V.I.T. is a Czech DJ who promotes a monthly Czech and Slovak night in Sydney and Uber made contact and offered him to join in the fun and the chance to fling out tracks un-heard in Australia from his language group. FSB is a first generation Uber DJ who moved from the weekly club in Melbourne to live in Perth and work as a Sound Engineer. His residencies in clubs on the dead sea cost of Bulgaria are still talked about back home. Aindrias de Staic is Irish Gaelic speaking Musician, Broadcaster and Theatre actor from Galway. When he comes to Australia (this is his 3rd visit), Uber Lingua forces him to DJ his vast selection of trans-Gypsy music. Usually he cant help but get out the fiddle. Representing the locals and pulling out all the fave Gyp, Balkan, East and Northern European tracks are Mashy P, bP, Ollo DJs and DubChaman...

Working the LIVE STAGE are renowned Electronic Gypsy minstrels The Gypsy Dub Sound System. This four piece have been central to the growth of the Uber Lingua movement in Sydney and feature members from Macedonia (Sam Golding - Tuba, Trumpet) and Bulgaria (Veren Grigorov - Violin, Dancing) alongside a skankin reggae guitarist (Dirk Krithoff) and Band Leader Trevor Brown on Saxophone, clarinet & laptop programming...

Also playing their debut set are The Gyp-Rocks... featuring Richard Mann from seminal electro-balkan band Mama Voltash, working with the illustrious Raven on dastardly string situations... a collision of hard edge beats and exotic acoustics... should be fun as!... Also, Uber's rounding up a bunch of performers & dancers for spontaneous moments so punters should stay alarmed but not alert. This event will be configured differently to the past 3 Uber-Abercrombie events...

More on the artists
Gypsy Dub Sound System

Merchants of the sublime Gypsy-scape... Gypsy Dub incorporate Eastern European and electronic composition, combining Bulgarian strings, traditional brass and the skankiní riffs of a reggae guitarist. A favourite of the Uber Lingua summer series of 2006/07, GDSS has grown out of a search to bring the passion, excitement, skill and juice of European music into a fat and funky club and festival context.

bP

With cultural diversity his primary passion, Australian DJ/producer 'bP' (Brendan Palmer) has been representing the musically 'not so represented' for nearing two decades. He has wandered the world gathering sounds and has performed in places as diverse as Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, London, Tijuana, Mexico city and Helsinki to name a few...  In 2004 he launched Uber Lingua and his sonic activity has grown exponentially playing literally hundreds of gigs and promoting culturally charged music in most capital cities of Australia. bP's sets traverse language, culture, genre, history and social scenes; deliberately defiant of mainstream music fashions, he presents an intersection of underground and outernational sounds that capture his imagination. Roots to Futurism, East to West, Minimal to Maximal are all sonic stops on bP's translingual express. Brendan additionally works as a producer at the legendary Melbourne radio station Triple R during the day and presents the weekly 'Dialectic' radio program on the web and  Tasmania's Edge Radio. ______

Ollo DJs

Ollo are a well known Sydney electronic act and moonlight as Ollo DJs. When they play with Uber their cultural heritage rises to the surface and the Germanic tendencies lead them to play a selection of music not often explored... the 'Neue Deutsche Welle' is basically Germany's answer to new-romantics... quite electro, very raw, a little trashy, lotsa fun... at this event they're going much further east!

Dub Chaman

Argentinian born, DJ Dubchaman represents the Sydney alternative Latin scene. A cumbia beats, reggae, dancehall and dub specialist, also plays bass guitar and efx as a member of 7 piece Sydney act 'Social Progression System'. With a flair for the rare groove, be it dub, free jazz, roots reggae, rub-a-dub, afrofunk, dancehall or musica latina and an ever expanding taste and knowledge of music styles, Dubchaman has been following this passion for music and honing his talents for more than twenty years. His focus is always about the feeling, the music and its message. Dubchaman never plans a set, avoiding predictability, never just settling for what's current. At the dawn of 2003, Dubchaman, together with other DJ's and MC's started Chimichanga, the first latin alternative night in Sydney, with a residency at the World Bar.

Since then, Dubchaman has played sets at many different Clubs and Venues, such as The Basement, Canberra's Old Parliament House, Candy's Apartment, The World Bar, The Hippo Bar, and The Marquee to name a few. As a member of Uber lingua DJ's, Dubchaman has also played at St Jeromes, in Melbourne, Uberlingua Nights @ The Abercrombie Hotel, and The Sydney Laneways Festival, often under SPS Cru, a Sound System with MC's and Percussion. In addition to his musical adventures, Dubchaman is a Graphics and Web Designer with more than 15 years experience.
