Uber Lingua & Dialectic on Edge Radio presents
RUSS JONES (London)

'Hackney Globe Trotter' Russ Jones returns to Australia for an east-coast 'global beats' jaunt in Feb... rocking venues in five cities on his way to his main gig at Womadelaide next month... In each location, he plays alongside the local Uber Lingua crew.

Russ is behind some of London's most successful clubs including 'Around the World in 80 Ways', 'London Calling' and 'No Room for Squares' in the mid 90's, and was Artistic Director of legendary jazz venue 'Blue Note'. Guest deejays included luminaries Gilles Peterson, James Lavelle, Fabio, LTJ Bukem & Norman Jay amongst udders. Jones also played a vital role in setting up the celebrated Brazilian record label 'Far Out Recordings'.

In the 21st century, Russ has become one of the world's leading 'global beats' DJs. From his seminal club night 'Future World Funk' working alongside regular DJ partner Cliffy, he has gone on to compile over 13 compilation CDs including the two globally renowned volumes of 'Gypsy Beats and Balkan Bangers', and now follows up with 'Arriba La Cumbia: The new sounds of cumbia from around the world'.

Always championing new music Russ also had a hand in signing 'Panjabi MC' for his world-wide hit single 'Mundian To Bach Ke' which lead to the bhangra phenomenon crossing over from the UK Asian underground to many a dance-floor.

DJ BTC is well-known in Hobart for having co-hosted the long running dub&roots show on Edge Radio, and currently presents What I Say.  DJ BTC speaks Italian, and his playlists often include Fela Kuti and MC Solaar.  He is a DJ in the loosest and most original sense of the word. He'll do your 80s retro party, he'll do your white-kids-love-hip-hop party, he'll play reggae in wine bars. Sometimes he even plays his own shit and sings along. What he doesn't do is play vinyl, and go wicky-wicky-whack. Not that he's averse to this stuff, he just can't do it or afford it.

bP

With cultural diversity his primary passion, Australian DJ/producer 'bP' (Brendan Palmer) has been representing the musically 'not so represented' for nearing two decades. He has wandered the world gathering sounds and has performed in places as diverse as Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, London, Tijuana, Mexico city and Helsinki to name a few...  In 2004 he launched Uber Lingua and his sonic activity has grown exponentially playing literally hundreds of gigs and promoting culturally charged music in most capital cities of Australia. bP's sets traverse language, culture, genre, history and social scenes; deliberately defiant of mainstream music fashions, he presents an intersection of underground and outernational sounds that capture his imagination. Roots to Futurism, East to West, Minimal to Maximal are all sonic stops on bP's translingual express. Brendan additionally works as a producer at the legendary Melbourne radio station Triple R during the day and presents the weekly 'Dialectic' radio program on Edge Radio and nationally on the Community Radio Network satellite.
