On April 11th we played with The Bird and Mista Savona at the Northcote Social Club... On the 5 Fridays in Feb we provided DJs and a
LIVE support set for The Red Eyes at Revolver
6 of us played the opening party of the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2008 & Family Weekend the next week Uber Lingua started at St Jeromes in the beginning of 2004. The Finale for this residency was on Feb 14 2008... For 47 months (about 200 weeks) since March 2004, Thursdays at this impromptu venue have been the local hot spot for cultural, linguistic and musical diversity, some fairly left field global wanderings, over 300 guest DJs (much respect!) and many a special occasion. Most of the International acts that have performed at Uber Lingua have claimed it to be one of their favourite stops on their Australian tour... We've been privileged to feature people like Filastine (Barcelona/Seattle), Deadbeat (Canada), Skist (Japan), Dunkelbunt (Vienna), Nortec (Mexico), Alejandro Davila (Mexico), Dododdo & Ove Naxx (Japan), Russ Jones (UK), Sinpare (Kenya), Aindrias de Staic (Ireland), DJ Olive (NYC) & Makenz (Japan) amongst others on makeshift stages and DJ setups... CD launches for acts such as Coldcut, TTC, N'Fa & assorted compilations have been promoted & we've done other one offs like Melbourne Funk Ball 2, the Gypsy & Balkan Bash and two Laneway festival spots during this time too! Uber Lingua grew from a figment of bP's imagination to what it is today thru the on going support St Jeromes has offered during this time. From week one where a small sound system and DJ setup had to be hired, to offering a stylistic thread to the other international style nights across 2005, to watching multiple generations of bar staff and punter discover the place, enjoy it as a weekly ritual, then get over it... experiencing varying levels of technical proficiency thru time... this has been a great growth phase for both UL and St Jeromes itself. Over time Uber Lingua has gone on to do many other things, events, fests, venues, tours... here's a run down of whats happened in Victoria... The finale for Uber Lingua Thursdays at St Jeromes was on Feb 14th 2008 ...

In early November we launched our second weekly thing up in Northcote called ROGUE STATE... It lasted until July 07
DEADBEAT ... and the following week we had the next of our special LIVE events... Thursday October 26th we presented DEADBEAT (Can) and DJ Alejandro Davila (Mex)... Deadbeat is Scott Monteith, an adopted Montrealer who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for labels such as Cynosure, Intr_version, Revolver , and Scape. Whether crafting quirky, not-quite- dancefloor techno, or rumbling digital dub,Scott continually strives to create music that honours the past beyond empty tribute or cultural appropriation, by infusing the digital tools of the present with a little of the magic known as human imperfection. Alejandro Davila lives in Guadalajara, Mexico... Over the course of the past decade he's dedicated a great part of his personal time to the promotion and expansion of electronic music that explodes around the globe.
NORTEC's surprise appearance ...only two weeks later we had a surpirse appearance by the NORTEC crew with two of their key composers BOSTICH and PANOPTICA playin lap top sets... Bostich is one of the most representative electronic musicians in Mexico. His track "Polaris", gained Bostich the title of "The Godfather of Nortec". Panoptica (AKA Roberto Mendoza) has been one of the main figures in the Mexican electronic scene since the late 80ís, founding bands like electro pos-industrial outfit Artefakto, and in the late 90ís the critically acclaimed Nortec Collective... here are some photos...
FILASTINE then on October 5th we had the pleasure of havin Spanish based American born FILASTINE perform at Jeromes as part of an east coast tour... alongside Samm Bennett (Japan), Haruno Ito (Japan), John Lee (Mountains in the Sky), Mashy P (Sydney Uber ), bP & Raceless... + VJ: SDzeit.[state]. We also did the Sydney event. Click here for theFILASTINE TOUR PAGE To quote his bio... "Filastine creates music and live sets that wreck genre, charting a new sonic map by synchronizing mutated hip hop, smashed-up beats, and international obscura. This year Filastine dropped Burn It on dj/Rupture's Soot Records.... For the last two years Filastine has brought his sound clash to clubs, squats, festivals, and underground spaces across the globe, performing with laptop, midi triggers, loudspeaker, and percussion mounted on a shopping cart, sometimes joined by a guest mc or vocalist..." MELBOURNE FUNK BALL 2 On September 23 we produced the MFB2 event fund raising for the street Kids of Rio... A stack of DJs, performers, a video artist & a few surprise guests came together playing for nothing at a fully fitted out St Jeromes (extra PA and stage) on September 23rd... The lineup included Ennio Styles (RRR), Guido Melo and Ortiz Pinto (from Brasil), bP, sakamoiz and Zaibatsu (from Uber lingua), Lord Lingham (PBS) and event instigator Gringo Branquinho... play alongside Video Maestro SDzeit.[state]... A donation of $6 got people in and put them in the running for a considerable stack of door prizes and giveaways throughout the night including dinners for two, slabs of beer, lingerie, clothing and other exciting donations from generous Melbourne businesses. click here for the full event details, wrap up and photo gallery... MISO and NUBIAN KNIGHTS On the 31st of August 2006 we started a series of LIVE events over the 06/07 summer featuring both local and international artists... This gig featured Miso and Nubian Knights... Miso is a conglomerate of an ever-growing collective of acoustic and electro sounds. The present ensemble is Double Bass, Cello, broken beats and gritty vocals. A result of 3 years of electronic composition by producer Thomas (Soup) Campbell and his integration and collaborative composition with instrumentalists Supina Bytol, Martin Hadley and Benjamin Skepper. In August 06 we helped local Hip Hop producer N'fa launch his debut solo release... it worked surprisingly well with the Uber punters who love hip hop...
LILY ALLEN On the 9th of August we supported Lily Allen at her industry night at St Jeromes(who's album went number 1 in the UK)... The word was out and Jerome's was jamm packed... About 400 punters had to be turned away from the venue unfortunatly, but this gig was pretty much to forge a good relationship between her and St Jeromes... so there's a good chance she'll play again in future... Here are some photos of Lily we gathered for promotions...
EASTER THURSDAY 06 FULL MOON PARDY!!!! On Easter Thursday 06 Uber Lingua hand picked three killer guests from very different sonic scenes. Ex-UK Video artist Arnold Eye Irons puts his DJ cap on to play the early pioneers of modern electronic music (we're talking the 80's here, not the 20's)... Guido from Brasil has been a regular guest DJ at Uber over the years and has returned to his home land a few times since to gather a solid South-East American music collection! Travelling Irish Gypsy Andreas dug out a mind bending selection of Trans-Gyp-minimal beats that break that type of dance music back to it's core. The resulting dancing on tables by people in suits was an indication of how big a night it was for us... one of the only days in our history at Jeromes when the next day is a public holiday! Maybe the full moon had somethin to do with it.
Around this early part of 2006 did a few CD launches in collaboration with local distributor Inertia incluing a DJ Kicks release and Coldcut's new album...
SINPARE at HiFi The show Sinpare did at the HiFi bar was on a Wednesday night so we changed the schedule so Sinpare played between the two support crews COMBAT WOMBAT and DIAFRIX with no changeover time so it was just one continuous 3 act live set complete with MC Cyphers between SInpare and the locals... was lotsa fun... Click here or on the flier for the dedicated web page Peats and Onepare loved Australia, here they are hanging out on the southern headland of Bondi in Sydney...
2nd BIRTHDAY BASH - March 23rd 2006 Recently Uber Lingua LIVE events have happened where the venue is fitted out with a stage, Live PA, multiple video projectors and lighting. The first of these in March 06 was our 2nd Birthday Bash that featuring touring Kenyan Hip Hop crew SINPARE with local supports including CURSE OV DIALECT. Click here or on the flier for the dedicated web page... GLOBAL TRASH at the ESPY The GLOBAL TRASH at Espy event was our first real attempt at a going off dance event in Melbourne. The lineup was impressive with UK GLobal beats selector RUSS JONES (Future World Funk), 10 piece Russian Criminal band VULGARGRAD, Afro-hoppers DIAFRIX, Costa Rican Reggaeton Maestro HOT PROERTY and Uber regular bP... alongside video artists Arnold Eye Irons, Dom and naH. Click here or on the flier for the dedicated web page... Russ Jones from Future world Funk played the above gig and also dropped a set at St Jeromes... twas fun
In early 2006 some other interesting things happened like the very tounge in cheek ALL AUSSIE - 12 HOUR Australia day event that must have been one of the hottest days in Melbourne recorded history... featured DJs were Lord Lingham, Johnny Topper (3RRR), Idar Alvestad (Norway), Djedi, Paso Bionic (Curse & TZU),Saigon Sausage, Vulk Macedonski vs ADP, Michael Correa (Syd), bP & Raceless... there was no flier for that one... here's the flier for the DODODDO & OVE NAXX event we did with our mates Dual Plover on October 13 2005 Early 05 was spent getting stuff in other cities happening for Uber Lingua... Hobart parties, a Sydeny residency... but we did play the first ever Laneway Festival at St Jeromes to great affect on the 27th of February 2005.
click here for more photos of Laneway Festival 2005 Other stuff... heres' Hiro's faces... developed for assorted uses by UL in 2005

Over time Uber Lingua has been involved in events in collaboration with other crews including nights organised by local International Student Organisation Polygot, a one off event at the Ace Morning Bar, and Opulent magazine's (now postponed) tour of French MC Cuizinier.
and some more...
Oh and lastly... here's a very early St Jeromes concept night we did with a BIGWEST BOGAN theme (thought up by early Uber collaborator Saigon Sausage unsurprisingly!)... and here's a shot of the infamous St Jeromes streaker who appeared the night of the COLDCUT CD launch... Here's Mashy P's take on the incident... "I was playing the St Jeromes venue in central Melbourne the other night, having just flown into town. Got myself a beer and settled into a set behind the decks. I started playing some latinesque dance tunes, when this dreadlocked guy came up to me, armed with a quick succession of 'up yours' fingered salutes. I said "whats up" and he started ranting about a guy with a Led Zeppelin T-shirt - who from what I could gather didn't like the selection. I saw the Zep shirt dude sitting in the venue, and he seemed happy enough. Trying to humour the guy, I suggested the T-shirt wearer perhaps was donning the top as a trendy retro thing, maybe he wasnt really into Led Zep. On this he said "well at least you talk" - and with further 'up yours' gestures he dissapeared into the crowd. I was forgetting about the incident, when he returned stark naked about 10 minutes later. He came up to the booth and said, "This is because of the Led Zeppelin T Shirt" - before being escorted out of the venue by a security guard, confused smiles and raised eyebrows abound."
